Johanna was pressed against the glass that day. The rain ran down her window pane like her tears. She found it upsetting that the weather would mock her emotions. Why couldn't she be happy? She had everything a girl could wish for, didn't she? A wealthy guardian, who loved her like a daughter, and she was showered in gifts. She sighed. She wished she wasn't that spoiled, was she? She sighed again, tracing her finger against the glass.

The beadle was 'babysitting' while Turpin was away. He remembered what he had said about removing the picture to look in at her to make sure she was behaving. He removed the picture and looked through the hole. She seemed to be doing good. He had hoped that she would ask if she needed anything. He didn't want to do anything wrong.
He wandered back down stairs and sat looking out the window. As the rain continued to pour down he wondered what Turpin was doing at the moment. Issuing a hanging? Getting absolutley drenched? Oh well. He need not to worry about that.
He started looking around at all the books and just the place itself. It was huge. He wandered out to the kitchen and looked around. Even that was huge. He looked in the ice chest and got the milk; poured himself a glass and put it back. He went back into the room he was previously in.
He had failed to ask Turpin how often he should check on Johannah. He went back up and removed the painting and looked back in. She hadn't moved.

Johanna was trying not to seem displeased, she was lying to herself. She told herself she was happy. She had all she needed and all she could desire. She was safe. No one was going to harm her, she was loved. She was a person. Not an possession or property. She hated how her guardian made her his property. She wasn't an object. She was a human being. Why couldn't he see that she wasn't a child? She was blooming into a beautiful young woman, a blind man could see that.
Throughout the week while her guardian was gone, Johanna tried to occupy herself by filling her mornings and afternoons with brushing up on her French. She wished someone would tutor her again, she hated teaching herself. It was so boring, she didn't know whether or not she was doing anything right.
She was spoiled. She knew it. She wanted more than she was given, but there were some things that Johanna would sacrifice in order to flee that house she was hoarded in. She would give up her reputation, give up her life, she'd even be homeless, just to know that she was a person. She sighed, knowing she was thinking mad thoughts. She didn't know what would be there for her once she wasn't under the care of her guardian. She didn't want to think of what terrors would await for her. She needed her guardian.
Johanna yawned, the side of her backside had nearly fallen asleep from sitting on it too long. She stood and stretched, regretting that she was out of things to do. Being a ward of a judge certainly limits things that a person can do.

As the beadle looked into the room, he secretly felt sorry for her. He could only imangine what life was like. He shook his head, he didn't feel sorry for her, what did he think he was thinking. Turpin had her locked up for a sure good reason. Hearing her try and speak French he was shocked. She was quite good. He knew spanish quite well and was surprised she didn't have a tutor. He hung the painting back up and went back down the stairs to where he was watching out the window earlier.
He noticed Lucy outside. That's when he thought he saw him. Antony Hope. He got closer to the window. No, it wasn't. Darn, if it was he could have caught him. Trying to gander at Johannah. Turpin would surly thank him for that.
He began thinking about the rain. It was quite peacefull and relaxing as it poured down harder. He then hoped once again that Johannah would ask if she needed anything. He didn't want to do anything wrong. Then Turpin would not be happy at all.
He wondered for Johannah's sake if she would ever be free. Hah. He laughed to himself, that's a joke in itself. She would never be free. Not as long as Turpin lived.

Johanna sighed before her window as she felt a urge to smash the glass with her pointy heeled shoe. But she didn't dare. She didn't have the right to be so vile and disrespectful to the man who took care of her. She couldn't be that selfish... After all, he was her father, wasn't he? She needed to obey.
Vert Finch et Linnet oiseau, rossignol merle, comment est-il que vous chantez?
She sang, hoping no one would be able to hear her.
Johanna gave up her own French language practice. It was so incredibly boring without anyone else there to do. And teaching herself wasn't top of her list.

From where he was sitting downstairs, he heard Johannah sing. It was french. It was really good. She could sing beautifully, and seemed to know french like it was her first language. Or, so it seemed.
He thought she must have a tutor of some sort and he/she would walk in the big, brown wooden door any minute. Who ever the tutor was he should be getting paid well. He is doing an excellent.
Just to make sure everything was alright, he went up, removed the painting and looked through the peep hole. Accidentally he had set the painting down a little to hard and it was audible. That was one thing that he strictly told him not to do.

The blonde sighed and almost feel into a deep slumber. It was so peaceful, so quiet. Surely nothing important would happen in her absence. But all thoughts of peace wandered from her mind as the sound approached her ears. Johanna flinched at the sound. What was that noise? Was someone in the house she called home? Maybe they were being robbed. Or maybe a murderer was there! She shuddered. She didn't want to be murdered... She nearly fell out of chair at the idea more than the noise, but, luckily she caught herself and pulled herself up. Johanna rose and glided to her closet and looked for something to defend herself with.
Johanna was shaking with fear, her imagination was running out of control once again. Her childish mind couldn't be blamed, of course. Reading books and writing stories that her mind was an ongoing story. Since she couldn't communicate with people besides the servants, maids, The Beadle and her guardian. And she knew how fun that was.
No, a hat wouldn't do.... She searched through her closet, looking for something to hit the burglar, if that was it was, over the head with.
Aha! Her brain clicked as she eyed one of her boots that matched her Church dress. She picked up the boot and shakily went back to her seat, she eyeing the door. Not knowing whether or not to demand to know if anyone was out there. Johanna frowned. Oh, I'm just being foolish. It was probably just a noise. Nothing's going to harm me.

The beadle, seeing how the noise affected her so much, decided he should tell her what happened. He knocked on the door and waited for her. He wasn't going to bust in.
Wait..Did she know he was 'babysitting' the house? Must be no becuase she surly would have thought it was him making a noise. He would probaly scare her becuase she would know why he was there.
Great He thought to himself. Another thing to worry about. Maybe Turpin didn't want her knowing I was here. Maybe I should just walk away before she opens the door. No, then she would surly think it was a burglar He thought to himself. He just stood there nonchalantly hoping he wouldn't scare her to much. He tended to always look pretty frighting though.

I'm going mad... She thought. No one would dare rob Judge Turpin's house. She sighed, hoping that she would forget the noise and just continue to read, or something. She didn't want to spend her time alone thinking she was mad, or either thinking she would be murdered.
Johanna craned her head to see out the window as the day turned to dusk. She had spent her whole day reading, sewing and whatnot. She wondered when supper would be...
Then came the possible solution as to what the noise would've been... It was so simple! Why hadn't she thought of it before? She could've shaken herself for being so ignorant. The noise must've been from her guardian's clumsy henchman. He must've dropped something. Her eyes rolled in her head as she smirked, picking up her diary and writing down the incident.

The beadle noticed that she didn't hear the knock at the door and decided to look in the peephole once more to see what she was doing. She was writing like nothing ever happened. He put the picture back up carefully and then proceeded to walk back into the living area.
As he looked out the window, he saw it was just about dusk he remembered dinner should be soon. He wondered what they would be making.
He sat there and pulled a book off Turpins shelf and started reading.
